Garbage Disposal Maintenance

If you don’t have an owner’s manual, follow these tips to help prevent your garbage disposal from grinding to a halt…

DO THIS:

·       Run it as you use it – avoid food build-up.

·       Continue running cold water 30 seconds after grinding.

·       Turn it off if it jams – use proper tools or tongs to clear it (never fingers!).

·       Add lemon pieces of frozen vinegar cubes for odor control.

AVOID THESE:

Grease, oils and fats.

Stringy food, like some raw meats, corn husks, celery, etc.

Flour baking soda and other powders.

Chemical drain cleaners.

Any non-food item, including large bones.
