condo gardening: keeping it real
Gardening in a condominium environment can be very stimulating and gratifying. Depending on the condo rules and the amount of balcony space available, some condo dwellers will surround themselves with soil beds and vegetable gardens, while others will be content with a few containers or window boxes.
If you are a beginner gardener, don’t run the risk of bringing a favorite indoor plant outside from a climate-controlled environment. Instead, talk to a garden expert about the types of plants you would like to see through your condo window or walkout.
Before visiting the garden center, do your homework. Be prepared to discuss the care you can arrange for any plants on your balcony or windowsill, especially if you are often away. Also, make a note of the kind of daylight/sunlight exposure your new plant might receive as well as any other potential effects, such as altitude, wind, birds, etc.
