Tips to Reduce Air Condition Costs

The heaviest period of air-condition use is quickly approaching. Here are a few pointers that can help reduce energy consumption without compromising comfort. Not only will these practices save money, they could also help ease the pressure on the utility grid supply during peak demand times.
1. If you have central air-conditioning, set an automatic thermostat slightly higher than you desired temperature, but run the circulation fan after the A-C cycle has stopped running.
2. Use a dehumidifier, portable fans, and even cooler nighttime breezes to help keep your home cooler and reduce A-C cycles.
3. Use heavy drapes to provide insulation in rooms with direct sunlight exposure. Close off these rooms from the cooling system when they are not in use.
4. Operate ceiling fans to help create drafts and expel hot air. (To ensure hot air is not pushed back down into the room, make sure fan blades are angled according to direction of blade rotation, per manufacturer’s instructions)
