How to Cope if your Air Conditioning Fails
Perish the tough, but if your air-conditioning system suddenly evaporates due to a blackout, brownout or local power failure, the following suggestions could help you and your family achieve some level of comfort, despite very uncomfortable circumstances.
- Wear loose, light-colored clothing.
- Keep activity to a minimum; reduce your body temperature with a cool shower or cold wet cloth.
- Eat small, light meals; avoid high protein or high calorie foods.
- Drink water frequently, with ice if available.
- Avoid alcohol and caffeine.
Above all, if you power outage is part of an emergency situation, be sure to have plenty of drinking water available. Overnight, keep beds near breezeway, but away from outside walls (they tend to absorb heat during daytime, but release it at night). If possible, arrange for sleeping on lower levels (or outside, it it’s safe.)
