Summer Barbecue Brush-Ups for “Sure-Fire” Safety
At this time of year, there’s no shortage of advice on the refrigeration and handling of uncooked meat, fish, and other perishables, but the most basic of barbecuing maintenance and safety tips are often neglected:
- Check all barbecue fittings and connections, to ensure they do not leak.
- Lift your barbecue hood when you add and ignite fuel.
- If you have a gas burner with flare-ups or hot spots, ensure it isn’t clogged and the tubes aren’t kinked.
- Store all gas tanks upright outdoors, away from hot sun. Fuel can expand and leak when overheated.
